The Project

Layali Salon will be a small, eco-friendly, beauty salon managed and staffed by refugee and migrant women. Opening in September 2018, the project will operate in Athens’s Agios Panteleimonas neighbourhood at Pipinou 78, where a Za’atar volunteer is providing a storefront formerly used as a beauty salon rent-free.

Permanent employees at Layali Salon will be refugees, but the project will also manage a paid apprenticeship program whereby refugees and migrants can gain entry-level experience in the beauty industry.

This program will build on the job searching services already provided at the Orange House and focus on beauty salon basics, English and Greek language, CV creation, and job searching tactics. At the conclusion of the apprenticeship program, Layali Salon will help participants find permanent jobs.
